SPOTLIGHT ON GRANTS:

  • Kids Beating Cancer Inc. was awarded a capacity-building grant for board development, and to create strategic and fundraising plans.   The organization will receive training through the Rollins College Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership Center.
  • The Community Foundation has made a Community Investment grant to Camaraderie Foundation for program evaluation.  The investment will enable the organization to identify areas for improving program outcomes, and ultimately measuring impact.
  • Freedom Ride, Inc. was awarded a capacity-building grant for the development of strategic and fundraising plans for the organization.  Through this grant, Freedom Ride staff and its board of directors will receive training and guidance through the Rollins College Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership Center.  The timing of this investment is critical for Freedom Ride, as it strives to prepare for various scenarios connected to its future location and demand for its services.  Executive Director, Marianne Gray, says, “We are excited about this new opportunity...such great timing as we are anxious to attain direction and work toward doing so much more than we are able to do right now.”
  • Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center Inc. – A $34,000 grant supports collaboration between Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center and Florida Hospital to open a Maturing Minds Clinic. The clinic will provide services to patients with Alzheimer’s disease or other related dementias in an effort to reduce hospital admissions or readmissions that are often avoidable for this population.

  • Harbor House of Central Florida Inc. - A grant for $10,000 will help Harbor House with the first year of operations of the new Paws for Peace Kennel. The kennel provides a safe refuge for the pets of the victims of domestic violence. Executive Director, Carol Wick, explains that one of the reasons a victim will choose not to leave a violent situation is because they do not want to leave a pet behind.

  • Early Learning Coalition of Orange County  was awarded $16,000.  The grant will provide case management and coordinate services for parents who attend the Parramore Kidz Zone Baby Institute.

  • Hospice of the Comforter  received $10,400 for its education program for registered nurses.  The grant will enable nurses to obtain training and certification in order to implement best practices for hospice care.

  • University of Central Florida Foundation received $12,500 from our 100 Women Strong fund, a group of women who pool financial resources to address social issues.  The grant is directed at the UCF Center for Public and Nonprofit Management to conduct research about food security and nutrition in the Pine Hills community.  Results of the research will be used to better address the needs and find solutions to food access and improved nutrition.
